Housing Programs
The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provides annual allocations of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to the City of Jacksonville. These funds are used to provide housing assistance through programs like those listed below.
Citizens participating in HUD funded programs offered by Jacksonville Neighborhood Improvement Services must have a household income of less than 80% of the area median income. Find out if you meet HUD household income limits.
Residential Rehabilitation Program
The Residential Rehabilitation Program provides low interest loans or grants towards the rehabilitation of an applicant’s principle residence located in the City limits of Jacksonville. Funding is used for correction of minimum housing code violations, accessibility improvements and other repairs necessary to improve the health and safety of the property.
Homeownership Assistance Program
The Homeownership Assistance Program is designed to assist families with purchasing a home of their own within Jacksonville City limits by providing a 0% interest, deferred 2nd mortgage to help with the down payment. This program was created especially for qualified families with incomes below 80% of the area median income who are capable of qualifying and repaying a first mortgage.
Homebuyer’s Education Course
Jacksonville’s Neighborhood Improvement Services (Formerly Community Engagement) offers Homebuyer’s Education Courses several times a year at Center for Public Safety, 200 Marine Blvd. It is a one-day course where those interested can learn the ins and outs of purchasing a home and can address their questions and concerns with local lenders and real estate experts. Pre-registration for the course is required, and there is a $25 registration fee to cover the cost of materials and lunch. Register online.
Money Management Seminar
Jacksonville’s Neighborhood Improvement Services (Formerly Community Engagement) offers Money Management Seminar several times a year at Center for Public Safety, 200 Marine Blvd. It is a one-day course which focuses on the importance of managing your funds and learning how to maintain a budget. Pre-registration for the course is required for this FREE course. Register online.
