Inmate Labor

Participating in the Inmate Labor Program saves the City approximately $100,000 in taxes annually.

Inmate Labor Classification

Inmates classified by the Division of Prisons for labor with the City of Jacksonville, North Carolina will not be serving sentences for murder, crimes of a sexual nature, or voluntary manslaughter.

Supervision

The City of Jacksonville Streets Division inmate supervisors have received Department of Correction’s Inmate Supervision Training and are re-certified annually.

No inmate will be allowed to work in an area that is not supervised by a custodial agent.

Work Station Duties

Workstations will be any property owned or leased by the City of Jacksonville. Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Cleaning
  • Grounds / building maintenance
  • Janitorial
  • Other government agency projects
  • Park / recreation area maintenance
  • Public works projects
  • Recycling projects
  • Roadside cleaning
