City Skatepark Closing January 6, 2020: In light of a recent NC Court of Appeals ruling that concerned the type of equipment at the Jacksonville Skatepark, it has been determined that it is in the best interest of the City to remove the equipment and close the facility effective January 6, 2020. The structures in the park are metal and will be removed and stored until the City can find alternates to address the need for a skatepark.
The Skate Park is located at the Jacksonville Commons Recreation Complex. There is no admission charge to the skate park. Participants must adhere to safety rules before entering the skatepark.
Skate Park Hours
Effective Monday, June 17, 2019: There will no longer be a skate park attendant, so you can use the skate park at your leisure during these hours. Safety equipment is required as posted at the skate park.
All skateboarding participants must wear a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, and appropriate clothing at all times while in the skate park. All BMX riders are required to wear a helmet at all times while in the skate park. No exceptions.
Skate Park Rules and Regulations
City of Jacksonville, Article III.-Skateboard Park, Section 16-36 through 41.
- The skateboard park is open from 8AM-8PM. There will be no trespassing when the park is closed.
- The skateboard park will be closed during wet, snowy or icy conditions or during park maintenance periods.
- The City of Jacksonville reserves the right to close the skateboard park or modify its hours of operation for any reason at the direction and discretion of the City Manager, the Director of Recreation and/or Director of Parks.
Duties of persons engaged in hazardous recreation activities:
A. All users of a skateboard park shall wear a helmet, elbow pads, and kneepads at all times while engaging in hazardous recreational activities.
B. Any person who participates in or assists in hazardous recreational activities assumes the known and unknown inherent risks in these activities, irrespective of age, and is legally responsible for all damages, injury, or death to himself or herself or other persons or property that result from these activities.
C. Any person who observes hazardous recreational activities assumes the known and unknown inherent risks in these activities, irrespective of age, and is legally responsible for all damages, injury, or death to himself or herself that result from these activities
D. Emergencies. In case of personal injury to any user or damage to the facility which may cause such injury, users of the Skateboard Park shall immediately notify the city by calling 911.
E. While engaged in hazardous recreational activities, irrespective of where such activities occur, a participant is responsible for doing all of the following:
a. Acting within the limits of his or her ability and the purpose and design of the equipment used.
b. Maintaining control of his or her person and equipment used.
c. Refraining from acting in any manner that may cause or contribute to death or injury of himself or herself or other persons or property. Failure to comply with the requirements of this subsection shall constitute negligence.
d. Shall wear a helmet, elbow pads, and kneepads at all times while engaging in hazardous recreational activities
e. Any person failing to abide by the provisions of this ordinance will be subject to citation by the Jacksonville Police Department.
Report any broken equipment, loose screws or unsafe conditions to the skate park management immediately. May result in park being closed for repairs.
