Adopt-A-Stream
Streams can be polluted in a number of ways and streams in Jacksonville are not safe from pollution. Types of pollution include Point Source and Non-Point Source. Point Source Pollution is pollution that originates from sewer and septic system leaks and also includes illicit wastewater discharges into stormdrains. It is important to note that Jacksonville’s stormdrains flow directly into City streams and waterways. Non-Point Pollution is stormwater that carries other pollutants like sediment, garden & lawn chemicals such as fertilizers and pesticides. Other pollutants include trash that is dumped or blows from trash containers that are over stuffed or not properly bagged.
How can you help? While the City monitors to locate pollution sources in streams, an extra pair of eyes and hands can surely help in clean-up efforts. Through the Adopt -A Stream Program your group help take care of area of stream in your local area.

Adopt-A-Trail or Park
Our trails connect with our City parks and they are connected here as well. The City of Jacksonville has more than 19 miles of trails and greenways and 17+ parks within Jacksonville City limits. Pollution most often occurs from Natural Debris and Human Littering. Debris from storm and other weather events can block paths. Trail visitors that improperly dispose of waste, pollute our public green spaces. City staff works hard to keep Jacksonville Clean & Green, but you may see it before they do.
How can you help? While the City monitors and works to maintain local Trails, an extra pair of eyes and hands can surely help in clean-up efforts. .
