Garbage Pick Up Days
Jacksonville Sanitation collects household waste, recycling, and yard waste weekly. Recycling is collected the same day as your household waste. To help us serve you better, please place containers no more than 3 feet from the curb with arrows facing the street and 3 feet apart from any other objects. Garbage containers and yard waste should never be placed in the street. Learn more about what is acceptable household waste, recycling material, and yard waste.
Holiday Collection Schedule Changes
Changes in the collection service schedule may occur during holidays. The City’s Sanitation Holiday Calendar reflects only days that there is a change or interruption in service.
Yard Waste Collection Following A Storm
Normal yard waste pick up in on Wednesdays. Following any major storm, City Sanitation and Street Crews will be working hard to collect yard debris piles. Jacksonville Sanitation will prioritize yard debris collection according to the hardest hit areas, starting in areas with the greatest amount of fallen trees.
Yard waste piles that do not exceed 128 cubic feet (4 feet wide x 4 feet high x 8 feet long) or debris that is placed in containers will allow for easier and potentially quicker pickup by Sanitation crews. Larger debris piles will need to be collected by specialized equipment, which may take time.
Yard waste should be placed less than 3 feet from the curb and at least 3 feet from other objects, including containers, vehicles, electric boxes, and poles. Yard waste and containers should never be placed in the roadway.
Summer Hours
In an effort to beat the heat, Sanitation crews begin collection operations at 6:30AM during summer months. This allows employees to adjust to the summer heat and work more efficiently. Items normally placed out at the curb by 7:30AM should be placed ready for collection by 6AM throughout the summer months.
