Explorer Program

Upcoming Orientation: 

Lead Officers of the Explorer Program invite interested community members (ages 14-20) to attend an orientation on May 22nd from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Department of Public Safety (200 Marine Blvd.) to learn more about the program. 

Learn about what the program entails, ask questions, and receive information on signing up.

Students ages 14 to 20 interested in law enforcement or fire service fields should consider joining the Jacksonville Public Safety Explorer Program. This program is designed to give real life insight into public safety related careers through hands-on activities and instruction from local professionals. This program is open to all local high school students. (You cannot be over 18 years of age when you enter the program. Explorers will age out of the program at 21 years old). 

  • Letter of recommendation from School Resource Officer required
  • $34 one-time insurance fee for each explorer (each sequential year enrolled in the program is free of cost)
  • Uniforms, equipment, training, and events covered at no cost
  • Certificate upon successful program completion
  • Looks great on college application or career resume
  • Program available through Boy Scouts of America Learning for Life (participants are not required to be members of BSA; males and females invited to apply)
