Movies in the Park

An annual tradition each Summer, Movies in the Park offer a family oriented night of fun and movies.  Be sure to bring your blankets and chairs to enjoy the presentation which will start at sundown.  Fun activities such as games and arts & crafts will begin at 7PM.

TACO (Take a Child Outside) Week

Pop Up In the Park

Join us during TACO Week at Wilson Bay Park for various crafts. This event is a free community gathering that aims to encourage families to get outside together, enjoy free play, and explore the nature we have right here in our City.  We'll have a range of crafts for everyone, including decorating and flying kites, making Paper Daffodil Pinwheels, and painting the Earth Sun Globe Catchers.

Kids Disc Golf

Is your child interested in playing disc golf? Bring them out to the park and join Jacksonville Recreation & Parks during TACO week (Take a Child Outside) for a free round of disc golf at Northeast Creek Park on Wednesday, September 27 starting at 5:00 PM. The Onslow Flying Disc Association will be on site to offer tips and help beginners get started. We will have discs available at the information tent to check out and use on the course if you do not have your own. Get your kid(s) off their tablets and video games and take them outside to enjoy a fun round of disc golf with us.

Kids Kayak Paddle

Get your kid(s) out of the house and out on the water for a FREE kayak paddle down the New River with Jacksonville Recreation & Parks for TACO (Take a Child Outside) week. Our friends over at Pogie’s Fishing & Kayak Center will be providing tandem kayaks, paddles, and lifejackets for you and your child as we guide you through from Oakhurst Landing to the Riverwalk Marina. We will be transporting participants from Riverwalk Marina to Oakhurst Landing by bus. Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for check-in, instructional briefing, and required paperwork. Registration is required and  will be for 1 tandem kayak (one adult, one child). Each child must be accompanied by an adult on all kayaks.
