“Sharing Hands Means Caring Hearts” is the theme of the 2020 Poster, Poetry, and Essay contest. The annual contest is sponsored by the Onslow Commission for Persons with Disabilities and the City of Jacksonville. Onslow County students, on and off base, in public or private schools and home schooled students are welcome to participate. Create an Original Poster or Poem or Essay about your own observations when you meet or see a person with a disability. As you prepare your poster, poem or essay, reflect on your very own community, your friends, loved ones, classmates, and others and express your ideas to help others see beyond the disability and see the person.
Your entry poster, poetry, or essay must be an original work. Work that is copied, traced, or otherwise reproduced, or that is substantially the same as an existing work will be disqualified. The deadline to submit your work for this popular annual competition is April 24 by 5PM at City Hall, 815 New Bridge Street. More info or for an application form call the City Clerk’s office at 910 938-5224 or visit JacksonvilleNC.gov/PoetryContest.
