Motorists should be aware of several events taking place at multiple locations throughout Jacksonville on Saturday, December 2.

Merry Fitness 5K
The Jacksonville Commons Recreation Complex will host the Merry Fitness 5K from 8AM to 10AM. The Axis Physical Therapy Merry Fitness 5K will see approximately 2000 runners -- including elementary and middle school age children, their coaches, running buddies and other runners from the community.

The race starts at 8AM at Jacksonville Commons Elementary School and the route will wind around Commons Drive.

Traffic will be maintained through the area, but may be delayed because of safety escorts for the runners. Persons who expect to travel in the area during race hours should allow additional time and use care when driving through the area.

Race organizers ask that residents consider moving their cars off the route Friday evening and to keep them off the route until the run is complete. They are also asking anyone in the area to help cheer on the young runners.

Winterfest Artisan Market
Following the race Saturday morning, the Winterfest Artisan Market will take place at the Jacksonville Commons Recreation Center from 10AM to 6PM. Residents and motorists may continue to see increased traffic in the area throughout the day and again on Sunday.

Winterfest Outdoor Activities
Snow, Santa, live music, reindeer games a tree lighting and a flotilla are just a few features of the City of Jacksonville Winterfest taking place Saturday 1-7PM. Winterfest outdoor activities will attract families, community members, and visitors to Riverwalk Crossing Park in downtown Jacksonville.

Mayor Sammy Phillips will light the City Christmas Tree around 6PM. Following the tree lighting ceremony, the Jacksonville Breakfast Rotary Club will host their annual flotilla on the New River.

A Christmas Cheer station will be set up at Winterfest to collect donations for local families in need. Unwrapped gift donations for children ages infant to 17 are welcome.

Admission, parking, and shuttle rides are all free, courtesy of Jacksonville Recreation & Parks. An event map and details are available online at JacksonvilleWinterfest.com.
