Jacksonville Fire & Emergency Services wants to remind you that it is unlawful to have an open burn within the City limits of Jacksonville. Yard waste and garbage are not allowed to be burned at all.
Assistant Chief Hayes says, “The only exceptions to the ordinance includes fires for warmth and to cook that are in a container like a grill or fire pit. Fire used to train City firefighters is the only other burn allowed within City limits.”
City Ordinance Section 8-79 details what constitutes an open burn. A permit is required from the Fire Chief, the Fire Marshal, or his authorized representative for all fires conducted outside of a building. Permits will not be issued unless the burning operation complies with all state and federal air pollution authority rules.
If you spot an unlawful open burn, please call Jacksonville Public Safety at 910 455-4000. Learn more at JacksonvilleNC.gov/Fire.
