1. My water looks cloudy or has a funny smell, or my pipes rattle when I turn the water on, why?

Water Plant personnel may need to take a sample of the water. Cloudy water and rattling of the pipes may also be a result of air in the lines. Simply turn on all the faucets and let them run for a few minutes, this will usually clear out the air. Sometimes city personnel need to flush a nearby hydrant to clear the air in the city lines.

Funny or strange smells can be anything form higher chlorine levels in the system at that point, to a garden hose cross connection, where a hose with a nozzle is left on at the outside spigot and what you get is a backwash. which smells stale or like the rubber lining in the hose. Simply make sure the water is off at the outside spigot.

2. What are the chemical contents in my water? Is there fluoride in the water?

Jacksonville's water is tested regularly for bacteria, and for organic and inorganic chemicals. Jacksonville's water is naturally fluoridated and we do not add fluoride.
